Several of you asked me last week if I watched the CrossFit Games the previous weekend. When I answered that I did not, I caught a hint of disappointment in a few of your eyes. It isn't that I have anything against the CrossFit Games, but there were trails to be ridden here and the river beckoned for a late afternoon float. My desire to use my own fitness and have my own experiences was stronger than my interest in watching others use theirs.
You all know how passionate I am about CrossFit and my belief that it can transform lives as well as fitness. But the CrossFit magic that stirs my soul happens in our hot little sweaty gym surrounded by close friends, before and after and in between our jobs and families and responsibilities. There are no cameras, crowds, or money to be won. Only the satisfaction of a challenge accomplished, a workout completed, another step in the journey. I don't always know the specifics of what you've overcome on a daily basis to make it to class, but I know for many of you just getting to the door can be a workout.
I have nothing but respect and admiration for what the CrossFit Games athletes accomplish and overcome to get where they are in their CrossFit journey. But quite honestly, it pales in comparison to what you guys accomplish and overcome in YOUR CrossFit journey. Maybe some rainy Saturday afternoon I'll search back through the archived footage of the CrossFit Games and check out the action. There is definitely inspiration to be found there. But that won't be what gets me to the gym on Monday morning. What gets me out of bed is the role I get to play in helping the magic happen in your lives. True that it is nowhere near as shiny and glamorous as the CrossFit Games; but it is every bit as powerful.
Thank you for the inspiration you provide every day.
