Park Workouts Canceled

In cooperation with Gov. Polis's order, Catacombs will be closed for the next 30 days. We will continue to post at-home workouts, coach you virtually, and be your connecting point through this time. Get ready to hear from us! We cannot offer in-person training of any kind but would appreciate the opportunity to continue to coach you through all of the channels available to us. But we need your help now more than ever.

Hard Decisions

The time has come to do the right thing for the common good. While I had hoped to keep our doors open through this crisis, I now believe that we must do our part to aid in the social distancing efforts to prevent or slow the spread of COVID-19. It is simply the only right thing to do. I've been in contact with San Juan Basin Health and while they will not require us to close, it is clear that continuing to promote the gathering of groups and physical contact within the gym puts people at risk. That is unconscionable to me.

We are implementing a 2-week cancellation of group classes effective Monday, March 16th through March 29th.

We’ve Got this!

It is getting more and more difficult to make sense of the state of affairs in our world. It looks less likely by the minute that our little corner of the world will escape the impacts the coronavirus and the associated economic hardship.

Catacombs has thrived as a community gathering place for 6 years now. While we are following all guidelines and best practices around keeping our members safe, we are also preparing for the unlikely possibility of a forced closure. Rest assured that we are preparing alternative avenues right now for delivering not just your daily workout, but also your daily dose of community and connection. Read on to find out what we are working on.

The Best Offense is a Good Defense

Look friends, I know there is a lot of uncertainty out there. There is also a lot of misinformation. We are doing our very best to stay on top of best practices and maintain a clean and safe environment for this community. We need you to do your part by staying away if you are sick, washing your hands, and wiping down all of your equipment. Beyond that though, I want to remind you that all the work you do to be healthy and fit will serve you during this period too. We are all in this together. Often in times of stress, uncertainty, and difficulty, connecting with community and maintaining positive routines are as important as ever. Not only will you physically and mentally feel better, but you are also giving your immune system a boost by maintaining your exercise regimen.

The Joy of Giving Back

Yesterday, I had the honor of delivering a check for over $500 to Durango’s Sexual Assault Services Organization (SASO). I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all of you who came out to participate in our Snowdown Rowing Regatta and contribute to this great cause. Giving back to our local community is central to our mission at Catacombs. This year, as an organization, we have a goal of completing a service project every quarter to support the greater Durango community. Read on to find out how to nominate a project for us to take on this year.

Do It Anyway.

As we round the corner from January to February, I’m hearing from a lot of you the early hints of Spring Fever. Okay, maybe it is just in my own head, but I think it will resonate with many of you. The days are starting to get longer (ever so slowly) but we’ve still got a lot of winter ahead of us. Aside from the inherent beauty of winter and the abundance of mountain snow fun, the gray days and cold temperatures can take a toll on our mental well-being. The holidays are long gone but full-on Spring may still be many weeks away.

How are those resolutions holding up?

We are most of the way through January and the daily grind is back in full swing. Some of us are a few weeks into a lifestyle shift of healthier eating, more movement, and a solid gym regimen. If that is you, GREAT JOB! Statistics show however that most of us have already given up on those New Year’s resolutions and are back to our previous setpoint…or worse. The cruel reality of January has replaced the unbridled optimism of the holidays and new year.

Snowdown Rowing Regatta!

We are making a last push to get folks signed up for the 2nd Annual Rowing Regatta. As you all know, Snowdown is full of events that are wacky and crazy. Most events are the OPPOSITE of health and fitness focused. While we certainly aren’t knocking donut eating contests or drinking games (okay, maybe we are), we wanted to provide an alternative event with all the fun but not the debauchery. Enter, the Snowdown Rowing Regatta! Read on to learn all the specifics!
