Happy Sunday Friends–
A couple of our athletes, Brie Todd and Miguel Medina got tired of waiting for me to get things organized for this and have taken matters into their own hands. I LOVE it when that happens. Read on to find out how to be a part of the inaugural Catacombs Spartan Race Team.
Catacombs Fitness is organizing a team to train and race the Spartan Super and Sprint obstacle course race in February near Phoenix. Obstacle course racing combines various physical challenges such as climbing over walls, carrying heavy objects, traversing bodies of water, and running. The sport will challenge your endurance, strength, speed, dexterity, and determination!
I (Brie) have been interested in training for an obstacle course race for quite some time. I love racing. I love standing at the start line with excited nerves and hearing the gun go off. I love those first minutes of jostling for position and then finding my stride. But that is running, and I’m ready for something new. I joined CrossFit to build a different group of muscles & to find like-minded people to train with. Plus, I just needed a change of pace from that silly treadmill! I have been smiling since my first info session with Amanda.
One of our athletes is an obstacle course racing professional and has offered to coach our team to its first race. Miguel has extensive experience both racing and coaching for this type of challenge. The team will be open to anyone that is interested. Beginners are welcome and encouraged! Miguel will use many CrossFit exercises and add additional endurance training. The training will take place at Catacombs Fitness with possible additional sessions outside of the gym for running and cross training.
We will have an information session on Monday, October 3rd at 7pm at Catacombs to discuss the training plan and organize a team. Please attend if you can. If you have questions we are happy to chat. Our contact info is listed below.
