Day 6 – A Day of Reflection on your Goals

Ok, you’ve cleaned out your kitchen and you’ve put alcohol and sugar on hold. You’re getting more sleep and being more mindful. You’ve placed your workout into your top scheduling priorities and planned a delicious healthy meal. So, what could be next?  Let’s put all those tools to the test!

For today, we would like you to consider how you are going to measure your fitness. Is it a 5k or 10k race? Maybe a triathlon or the Iron Horse? Is it completion of a bucket list event? What about participating in the CrossFit Open? (The Open is a worldwide CrossFit competition that last for 5 weeks.  Each week a new WOD is released and athletes around the world complete the same workout and compare their scores.) We are going to run our own version of the Open to keep it fun and will release more details in the following weeks. Still, the mechanism by which you measure your fitness is not necessarily important, but objectively evaluating if your training program is getting you where you want to be is the critical component.

So, what’s it going to be? Set some metrics by which you can measure your fitness and goals that can keep you motivated and training hard. Post to comments and let your people know what you are working toward.

I’ve been thinking about training to run a sub-5:00 mile in 2016. After going progressively longer and slower over most of 2015 this seems like it would be a cool way to mix things up and tax different physiological systems. I’ll try to use that speed to run a 5K PR. Also, thinking that trying the Open would be fun. Here’s to a great 2016!

I hope to participate in a century bike ride this spring and (hopefully) a mid-distance triathlon this summer. Excited to get back to training hard, loving it at Catacombs already!
